From what I remember, the Z-channel was not completely washed out at 4.5 feet. It was mostly just fast water on the way to the Little Falls rapid. There weren't many eddies to catch on the Maryland side. The normal scouting rock on the Maryland side was not catchable --- no eddy to stop in. I don't remember any push to the right. It was mostly a swift flush down the Maryland side. I would say that it was a 4- at 4.5 feet due to the force of the swift current, the big waves, and the potential consquence of a long, flushy swim.
