Oh, you mean kayakers! I thought you were referring to the hamburger chain. Seriously, I wonder if this is related to the May 2 post below (Paddlers in the News) with a link to an MSNBC story about a stranded kayaker being rescued from a tree. I was there on Sunday and didn't see anything that day and there was nobody else on the water. It was hard to tell from the MSNBC story just where the rescue occurred but I assume the kayaker must have been on a strainer or flooded tree in the breaks. There is lots of wood in the GW canal blocking almost all of the right-hand route after you make the bend below the surfer's ledge. There are a couple of breaks in the wood that we didn't investigate, opting instead to take a small side channel to the right. There is also a large new strainer hung up on the rocks where the safety classes normally practice rescues. I can easily see someone getting snagged in there if they cannot control their boat given the faster current at the 5-foot level.
