PAN Access Advisory Goose
Creek, VA, near VA 621
by Bing Garthright,
301-330-1225, August 2004
There are two fair
accesses near the Evergreen Mills Road (VA 621) bridge, 2.5 miles downstream
from US 15.
At the south (right
bank) end of the bridge, turn onto Watson Road, VA 860.
About 20 yards from the turn, there is parking for at least 4
cars. Walk over a high bank and down a bare
dirt path to a mud and rock beach.
The carry is about 60 yards and fairly steep. As of June 2004, this area was not posted.
A potentially easier
access is on the left bank, upstream from the VA 621 bridge.
Use the dirt driveway that’s posted as “No Trespassing” by Mr.
Herbert C. Bohrer of Leesburg, VA, 703-327-4265.
In a June 2004 phone conversation, Mr. Bohrer assured Bing Garthright
that paddlers are welcome so long as they don’t add to the serious littering
problems on that site. If
you use this access, take a trash bag and help out Mr. Bohrer.
PLEASE NOTE: Most
private owners and organizations never invite paddlers to use their
land. Many are kind enough to tolerate it.
Just as we paddle at our own risk, we use advisories, parking
spaces, and access sites at our own risk. |
